Mos Def spent Valentine’s Day in court arguing over the amount of child support payments that should be given to his ex-wife, Maria Yepes-Smith.
He was originally ordered to pay $10,000 a month to support his 7- and 8-year-old daughters. But wants that lowered to $8,000 a month explaining that obligations to his three other children and business issues prevent him from making the court ordered amount.
"I'm the only person who's providing for my children," Mos Def told Judge Sarah Krauss.
In arguing in favor of the $10,000 per month court-ordered payments, Yepes-Smith's lawyer cited the new trailers for Mos Def's upcoming film “16 Blocks” with Bruce Willis.
"I've been seeing him in these commercials," her lawyer told The New York Post. "I'm sure he made enough money to pay his child support for his 7- and 8-year-old daughters."
Hmm. I'm not sure what I think about this. Seems 8k a month is more than enough to care for 2 kids. But then again, why haggle over an extra 2k when you are making movies etc, you should have the money, no? Hmm...
